The Little Grand Canyon

When I wrapped a shoot in Salt Lake City, Jack and I spent two weeks out on the San Rafael Swell. This was a new median in my time, a shift into healing and honest terms about myself as well as neighboring with the dirt, a phrase pilfered from my new favorite group, Wolf Alice, and the song, Bloom, Baby, Bloom.

My dad and his family grew up not far from here in Huntington and spent their summer days up Huntington Canyon. While I don’t have record of his ever making a trip out here – a dozen miles or so – I can imagine that at least he and his brother made the trek. At the very least, I can feel them both out here.

The Swell itself is a geological and natural history median, one that bears a visit and a stay.
